macOS Sierra has arrived and we talk about the new features: Baz collects his windows and Irish Siri makes her debut. We talk about our OS update styles, varying from cutting edge to maybe sometime. Dave bought a house and is looking at home automation solutions, what’s the state of the ecosystem and how does it all work? Dave’s old Macbook falls off the OS update cliff and it’s been over 1000 days since the latest Mac release. Is it delayed because Apple are devoting their time to an ARM Mac? Apple have been putting the pieces in place for a switch with bitcode, will they make the switch? Apple are working with McLaren Automotive, is it the Apple Car or fancy material engineering? Do we even want an Apple Car?

We discuss the aftermath of last week’s iPhone and Apple Watch announcements. Baz and Dave discuss what phones they will buy. Thomas updates his phone to iOS 10 live on air, and then starts to fret as he is told that the update is bricking lots of phones. Baz gets enthusiastic about the new features in Messages. An idea about Twitch for Spreadsheets leads on to a discussion about Excel wizardry, and programming tools for non-programmers. What Irish phone carrier should you choose? Baz and Dave’s first iPhone app is banished from the App Store. We discuss App Store economics, the shutdown of Vesper, the transition of Overcast to an ad-supported model and David Smith’s analysis of different app store models. A map, a REPL and a meetup makes us happy.

A slightly later episode this week due to some technical difficulties: Dave gradually descends into incoherence but he assures us that it’s was just his recording setup. So, Baz is still on the betas and Barbara Streisand leaks the release date of iOS 10! We talk about the latest rumours about the next iPhone. Dave talks about his photo sharing setup with Photos and iCloud and the hundreds of photos he’s taken since January. Ireland will officially never have an Apple ‘Store’, Thomas wants a Genius Bar and we weigh up repairing stuff ourselves. We talk new PlayStation 4, the PS Vita hack and Baz and Dave reminisce about the PSP and their programming days. Dave spent a while away with very slow internet. We discuss how lack of broadband is stopping people from buying houses in rural areas and we test our mobile broadband speeds. Thomas launched his WordPress Theme but don’t expect him to announce any more projects on the podcast! What’s involved in making a WordPress theme these days? Sony announces an event on the 7th of September, Baz tells us what’s in store. Will we buy the new PS4 when it is released? Will this clash with the iPhone 7 announcement? We list our wants for the next generation, will we be lamenting the loss of the headphone jack?

We have a slightly shorter episode this week as we’re in the midst of the summer holidays. Thomas designs his own WordPress theme and we talk about WordPress and blogging platforms in general. We talk about what product or platform we would recommend to someone wanting to start a blog or website. Thomas talks about his obsession with vintage Apple keyboards (and his trouble procuring one), specifically those designed in Limerick and manufactured in Cork. We talk about the platform haters and the lovers, what do you say when people hate a platform more than you love it? This week we pick analogue things that are making us happy.

This week we talk about Uber (which we can’t use): their database switch and the acquisition of their Chinese brand, Dave makes a bad database joke and perpetuates conspiracy theories. We talk about Hailo (which we can use), which is merging with MyTaxi. We have a local taxi app: Swify Taxi. This leads Thomas to rant about our lovely Eircode postcode system. Baz is still on the iOS Beta and laments the fact that he can not send us his works of art. What’s the current state of Swift, will we ever start to learn this language? Thomas wants to wait until idiomatic Swift is more easily discoverable. Could we live without our computer and use a $100 laptop shell that uses our phone as the processor, we talk about our previous attempts using our iPads as our only computer outside of work. Thomas takes the plunge and captures some Pokemon.
